You may submit once per genre during a given issue cycle. By submitting, you attest that all work is original and unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are accepted; please let us know if your piece is accepted elsewhere as soon as possible.
We accept pieces written and performed in non-English languages. If the piece contains a substantial amount written in non-English language(s), please provide the English translation directly within the piece or as a supplementary attachment, for reader accessibility.
Accepted work will be published in our magazine issue and/or online on this website. As Marías at Sampaguitas is a free-to-submit and free-to-access magazine, we are unable to pay contributors at this time.

In the body of your submission email, state how many poems are submitted. We consider a maximum of 3 short pieces (up to 1 page per piece) or 1 long-form piece (2-5 pages) per issue cycle. Any work exceeding this maximum will not be considered.
If the work is a response piece or a dedication piece, please make it clear in the body of your submission email. Please also include proper attribution in the document, following the title of your piece or at the end of your piece.

- Flash fiction
- Short fiction
- Excerpts of longer work
- Scripts or screenplays
Types of nonfiction accepted:
- Essays
- Letters
- Food recipes
- Journal entries
- Excerpts of longer work

Visual Art

Submit each work as a separate and named file attachment on your submission email. We accept high resolution JPEG (.jpg) and PNG (.png) images. Do not submit as PDF.
As a sign of respect for the Editor and for your work, please name each art file with the title of that piece; we will not consider submissions with file names such as “IMG_72864.jpg.”

Multimedia Art
Marías at Sampaguitas is excited to announce that we are now accepting Multimedia (video and audio) Art!

Due to the often large file sizes of multimedia work, please save all pieces in a single Google folder, and share access to the folder with our above gmail address.
We accept MP4 (.mp4) video files, MP3 (.mp3) audio files, and WAV (.wav) files. Each file may be a maximum duration of 10 minutes each. Please include transcripts of each file for accessibility purposes.
As a sign of respect for the Editor and for your work, and to avoid file confusion, please name each file with the title of that piece.

In the body of your submission email, state how many pieces are submitted. Per issue cycle, we will consider up to 3 multimedia files. Anything exceeding this maximum will not be considered.
Types of multimedia art accepted:
- Audio: songs, monologues, readings of original work
- Video: dances, animation, short film, short play or acts
Due to the nature of these submissions, accepted pieces will not be published in the print magazine, but will be published on our website through embedded platforms such as YouTube and SoundCloud. By submitting your work, you agree to give Marías at Sampaguitas permission to publish your piece on these multimedia platforms.
