Join Our Team

Are you passionate about intersectional, inclusive art centering BIPOC and Filipinxao voices? Are you looking for a tight-knit literary community?

Apply to join our team! We love growing the Marías at Sampaguitas family with fellow artists and kindred spirits.

We have volunteer positions open in the following categories.

Editor

We’re looking to expand our Editorial team! You’ll report to the co-Editors in Chief, but all of the staff works together to produce and release each magazine issue.

Previous experience as a writer, editor, or publisher is not required, but appreciated. The most important things are passion, energy, dependability, and an unwavering dedication to centering underrepresented voices.

Since we’re a small team, each Editor fulfills a wide range of roles in our operations — from marketing, to art, to finance, etc. A willingness to learn the production process from start to finish is greatly appreciated.

Attendance of Editors’ meetings once a month is mandatory. This is a volunteer remote position, but you must be able to accommodate US time zones (EST through PST).

Email your resume to MariasAtSampaguitas@gmail.com along with links or portfolio of any publications you have edited, if any.

Social Media Coordinators

We have multiple openings available for Social Media Coordinators to assist in managing our following accounts:

  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • TikTok

Coordinators will report to our Social Media Editor and specialize in their choice of one of the above social media platforms. They will be responsible for posting content to the platform and promoting issue releases and other important events.

Previous experience in publishing or social media is not required, but appreciated. Finding creative social media opportunities is a very impressive plus.

Attendance of All-Staff meetings is not necessary but always welcome. This is a volunteer remote position, but you must be able to accommodate US time zones (EST through PST), in case of time-sensitive announcements and happenings.

Email your resume to MariasAtSampaguitas@gmail.com along with links to any social media accounts you currently manage, if any.

Contributors

Contributors volunteer regularly throughout the year, helping to create writing and art content for the Marías at Sampaguitas website and magazine issues. Contributors may specialize in Genre submissions (for example, poetry), or in Feature pieces (for example, submitting book reviews); however, this is not necessary, and Contributors who want to try a little bit of everything are more than welcome to submit both Genre pieces and Features.

Attendance of staff meetings not necessary but always welcome. This is a remote and flexible position. You will be able to choose your contribution schedule–whether once a quarter, once a month, or even more frequently.

As we are a free-to-access and free-to-submit publication, we unfortunately cannot pay for contributed pieces at this time. However, contributors do receive priority consideration for publication in the magazine and on our website.

Email your resume and 3-5 work samples to MariasAtSampaguitas@gmail.com
